The Production Intensive workshop is designed to kick start your career in video production, as a Production Assistant and beyond.

 This bootcamp-style course covers everything an aspiring production professional needs to know, from in-depth technical camera, lighting, grip and audio skills, to soft skills like how to read a call sheet, impress the producers, use 
walkies like a pro, and not piss off the sound guy. 

 

After this course, you will be indispensable on any set, and producers will notice. Start working immediately.

Your Instructors

Jonathan Chekroune, Director of Photography
 

Originally born in Paris, France, Jonathan moved to the US at an early age and quickly developed an interest for film production which eventually became an obsession. After studying film in Miami, his passion for cinematography developed and Jonathan moved to New York to further immerse himself in the craft. Today, his experience in both narrative and commercial work combines to create a cinematic style for all forms of production. Credits include projects for Jeep, L’Oréal, The MET, Christie’s, Perry Ellis, and Royal Caribbean.

Tom Chaves, Gaffer​

Tom Chaves is an NYC-based gaffer and founder of Mastershot Films, a company that provides G&E services to production in New York. He holds a B.A. in film production from CUNY Brooklyn College, and has been working in lighting for 10+ years on commercials, documentaries, and corporate videos. After working with thousands of cinematographers, he has learned a lot about the importance of lighting and how to use it to effectively tell a story through light. In addition to working on set, Tom enjoys teaching fellow filmmakers lighting techniques & the many tools & disciplines that go into effective visual storytelling.

Gabe Quiroga, Audio Technician

Gabe is a sound professional based in NYC.  He has worked as an on-location and in studio sound mixer, sound designer, and audio engineer on many short and feature length films, documentaries, live events, and commercials. Recently, his work can be heard on many videos published by Vanity Fair, Teen Vogue, Wired, and MTV News and commercials such as Reebok and J. Crew. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music & Audio Engineering from The University of Michigan and his Master of Arts in Media Studies & Film from The New School.

Julius Pryor and Marttise Hill, filmmakers​

Julius and Marttise are award-winning filmmakers and the co-founders of Pryor Hill Productions, which focuses on creating compelling content by filmmakers from underrepresented communities. They are 2016 Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellows. They’ve produced two features that world premiered at the Sundance Film Festival: Tahir Jetter’s romantic comedy, How to Tell You’re a Douchebag, and Michael Larnell’s debut, Cronies, executive produced by Spike Lee. In 2018, they executive produced Kevin Wilson’s Academy Award nominated short film, My Nephew Emmett. Their latest short film, Feathers, by A.V. Rockwell, world premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2018. They have worked with established talent including Will Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, DeWanda Wise, and William Jackson Harper. 

 

Julius and Marttise received their Bachelor’s in English Literature from Morehouse College and their MFA in Film Production from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Julius and Marttise have taught courses on creative producing, screenwriting, and directing at Brooklyn College, Tribeca Film Institute, and the Ghetto Film School in New York. They’ve been featured on Nofilmschool.com and Slantnews.com.

After this Course, you will have:

  • Clocked 15  hours of on-set time.

Where You'll Learn

Firelight Studio is a professional video production studio located in DUMBO, NYC. The studio features an extensive and cutting edge in-house camera, lighting and grip equipment, as well as a ceiling lighting grid with DMX control. The studio has housed hundreds of professional productions, and provides the perfect environment for students to learn skills hand-on.
